About Calida Rehab

A Nasha Mukti Kendra in Mumbai where doctors lead every step of recovery

Calida Rehab runs a doctor-led Nasha Mukti Kendra for Mumbai families. We are a registered de-addiction centre with MSMHA Permanent Registration No. 60/2023. Many families also search for a Vyasan Mukti Kendra in Mumbai (व्यसनमुक्ती केंद्र), which means the same thing. Between our Colaba office and our Karjat campus, we support families from Mumbai, Andheri, Borivali, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Panvel and Kalyan, with round-the-clock medical care at Karjat. If you are searching for a nasha mukti kendra Mumbai families can rely on, start with a free and private call to our team.

We treat alcohol addiction, marijuana (ganja) addiction and drug dependency, including heroin (brown sugar), other opioids, stimulants and prescription pills. When addiction and another health condition occur together, we treat both in one plan, which is called dual diagnosis.

Care is led by our directors Dr. Prashant Dasud and Dr. Santosh Pawar, along with an on-site team of doctors, counsellors and nurses. Medicines, talk therapy and behaviour-based therapy are combined with family counselling, aftercare planning and follow-up calls at 30, 60 and 90 days after you leave.

Addiction types

A closer look at each addiction and dual diagnosis

See what each addiction means, why it is risky and how we handle it at Karjat. Every card opens a page with more detail.

Alcohol addiction

Alcohol dependence is a health problem and not a sign of weak will. Harmful drinking is behind a large share of illness around the world[6]. If someone has drunk heavily for years, quitting overnight can cause shaking, sweating, restlessness, fits or delirium tremens. This is why we begin with a doctor’s check, and supervised detox where it is needed[3]. Once detox is done, the doctor may add acamprosate or naltrexone to ease craving, together with therapy[3]. At Karjat we put detox, medical treatment, relapse-prevention sessions and family counselling together.

Heroin, sleeping pills and other drugs

Here we mean opioids like heroin (brown sugar) and strong painkillers, along with sleeping pills, stimulants and other drugs. Opioid withdrawal feels awful but is seldom dangerous by itself. The real danger comes afterwards: the body loses its tolerance during detox, so taking the old dose again can lead to an overdose[2]. Stopping sedatives can trigger fits, so it should only be done with a doctor watching[2]. If the doctor advises, buprenorphine or naltrexone may be used[1], along with counselling and a long-term plan to prevent relapse.

Marijuana (cannabis)

Using it heavily and often can lead to dependence. Withdrawal brings irritability, poor sleep, low appetite and restlessness for a few days to a few weeks. It is rarely dangerous, yet it is a common reason people go back to using. No medicine is approved just for cannabis dependence, so treatment rests on counselling methods such as CBT and motivational talks[7]. A doctor's assessment before treatment starts keeps the plan safe for each person.

Dual diagnosis

Addiction sometimes goes together with another health condition. NIDA’s guide says both problems must be treated[1], and NICE has its own guidance for people who have both problems at once[4]. If only one is treated, the other often pulls the person back to using. So our doctors check for both at the start and treat them together.

Other de-addiction help for Mumbai families

Clinical approach

How treatment works at our Nasha Mukti Kendra: what the evidence supports

Our care is built on national and international guidelines: assess first, watch withdrawal closely, use medicines when they help, treat any second health problem together with the addiction, and plan care for after discharge. The numbers in brackets lead to the sources listed at the end of this page.

Assessment comes first

A doctor looks at substance use, withdrawal risk, physical health and any other health condition, using standard criteria such as WHO’s ICD-11[8]. WHO’s mhGAP guide also begins with checking substance use along with physical health[2]. Its findings tell us if you need supervised detox, stay-in care or a hospital first.

Withdrawal should happen under a doctor

If someone has used alcohol or sedatives like benzodiazepines heavily for a long time, stopping abruptly can cause fits, confusion and delirium tremens[3][2], so withdrawal should be managed by doctors and not tried at home. Detox is just the first step. NIDA says detox alone does little to change drug use over the long run[1]. Read our guides on detoxification and alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Medicines where indicated

Some people benefit from medicines that cut craving or help stop relapse. After detox for alcohol dependence, NICE advises acamprosate or naltrexone together with a psychological therapy[3]; for opioid dependence, doctors may use medicines like buprenorphine or naltrexone[1]. See medication-assisted treatment. Medicines are not a cure on their own. They work best together with therapy.

Psychotherapy

NIDA names cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational enhancement and contingency management as behaviour-based methods backed by research[1]. Our programme includes CBT and motivational counselling, in both group and one-to-one sessions.

When addiction comes with another condition

Some people with addiction also live with another health condition. NIDA’s guide says both need treatment[1], and NICE has separate guidance on checking and managing both together[4]. Treating just one often leaves the other pushing the person back to substance use, so we treat both together. Read more on dual diagnosis.

Time to heal, and support afterwards

NIDA says people usually need at least three months of treatment before drug use drops or stops in a lasting way, and that recovery is long and may need more than one round of care[1]. For this reason our longest programme is 90 days, and family counselling, a discharge plan and follow-up calls at 30, 60 and 90 days carry on after you go home. See family therapy and what the first week of rehab looks like.

Which level of care suits whom?

Level of careWhen it usually fits
Medically supervised detoxDrinking every day in large amounts, dependence on sedatives or opioids, or earlier fits or delirium during withdrawal.
Stay-in care (30, 60 or 90 days)Many relapses, a home full of triggers, or addiction along with another health condition.
Hospital care firstSeizures, severe confusion, overdose or other serious medical problems. Take this seriously and call 112 if someone is in danger right now.

This is general guidance and not a diagnosis. The doctor's assessment decides what level of care each person needs.

Why Calida

Why Mumbai families pick Calida: healing away from the city’s pull

Recovery is easier when a person is away from the people, places and habits linked to alcohol and drugs. Mumbai's pace and old reminders make that hard. Karjat gives real distance, yet your family can still reach it easily.

01

Distance from triggers

Being away from old streets, shops and friends means fewer cues that spark cravings, so the early days are easier to protect.

02

A calmer daily rhythm

A calm place and a fixed routine help you sleep, join therapy and think clearly, without city noise and crowds.

03

Close enough for family

Karjat is about 2 hours from Colaba by road, and Central Line trains run to Karjat station, so family can come for counselling and stay involved.

04

A plan made after your assessment

Length and level of care depend on each person's health picture, so you get a plan made for you and not a fixed package.

05

Family stays involved throughout

Every plan includes family counselling, and we keep calling at 30, 60 and 90 days after discharge.

FAQs

Nasha Mukti Kendra in Mumbai: common questions from families

Does Calida Rehab have a Nasha Mukti Kendra in Mumbai?

Yes, in two parts. Our Colaba office in South Mumbai is where you meet the doctors for consultation and admission planning. The treatment itself happens at our Karjat campus in Raigad, around 80 km (about 2 hours) from Colaba.

What is the difference between a Nasha Mukti Kendra and a Vyasan Mukti Kendra?

There is no difference in meaning. Nasha Mukti Kendra is the Hindi term and Vyasan Mukti Kendra is the Marathi term for a centre that helps people recover from alcohol and drug addiction. Calida offers the same medically supervised care under either name.

Can I get treatment at the Colaba office?

No. The Colaba office is where you come for consultations, family guidance and admission planning. Detox, therapy and counselling all take place at our Karjat campus, a quiet place away from the triggers of daily life.

Karjat distance from Mumbai and how to get there

Karjat is about 80 km from Colaba and CSMT, which takes around 2 hours by road depending on traffic. From Kalyan it is about 50 km, from Navi Mumbai 55 km and from Thane 68 km. Dadar, Andheri and Borivali are 75 to 97 km away. You can also take a Central Line train to Karjat station.

Is it better to recover outside Mumbai?

Staying away from the people, places and habits linked to drinking or drugs lowers the cues that bring on cravings, and a quiet place helps with sleep, therapy and routine. Karjat is far enough to give that break, yet near enough for your family to visit and join in. A calm setting helps, but medical care is still what treats the addiction.

How much does a Nasha Mukti Kendra cost in Mumbai?

Treatment at Calida usually costs between ₹50,000 and ₹1,50,000. The price depends on how long you stay (30, 60 or 90 days), the level of care and the room you choose. Our team gives you the exact estimate once the assessment is done.

How long is the programme?

Stay-in programmes last 30, 60 or 90 days. A 30-day stay covers detox and getting stable. At 60 days there is more therapy and relapse-prevention work. The 90-day stay gives the fullest care and suits long-standing or complicated addiction. The doctor decides the length after your assessment.

Is Calida Rehab registered with the government?

Yes. Our Karjat campus, Calida Psychiatric Hospital, has a Permanent Registration Certificate (No. 60/2023) from the Maharashtra State Mental Health Authority under the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.

Which addictions do you treat?

We treat alcohol addiction, marijuana (ganja) addiction, heroin and other opioid addiction, stimulant dependence (such as cocaine and methamphetamine) and misuse of prescription pills. When addiction occurs together with another health condition, we offer dual-diagnosis care in one plan.

Can alcohol or drug withdrawal be handled at home?

It can be dangerous. After long-term heavy use, quitting alcohol or sedatives overnight may cause fits, confusion and delirium tremens, so a doctor should supervise withdrawal. We first judge how risky your withdrawal could be and then plan detox under a doctor.

Is admission confidential?

Yes. Admission is private and nobody will judge you. Your first talk with our team costs nothing and stays confidential.

How can I talk to a family member who does not want help?

Pick a calm moment, speak with care instead of blame, and focus on health and safety. Offer to go with them to a first consultation. Our team can guide you on how to start this conversation. See our guide on how to convince someone to go to rehab.

What if there is a medical emergency?

Our care is planned and doctor-supervised detox and treatment. We are not set up for serious emergencies like fits, overdose or other life-threatening problems, so please go to the nearest hospital emergency department or call 112. For an urgent admission, call +91 84529 40789.

What part does my family play in treatment?

Family counselling is included in every plan. It helps bring back trust and honest talk at home. After you leave, we call at 30, 60 and 90 days and help you keep your relapse-prevention plan going.

Which areas do families come from?

Families reach us from Mumbai, Andheri, Borivali, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Panvel and Kalyan. Call +91 84529 40789 and we will set up a first meeting or visit for you.

How do I check whether a Nasha Mukti Kendra in Mumbai is registered?

Ask for the registration number and a copy of the certificate. In Maharashtra the body that registers centres is the Maharashtra State Mental Health Authority (MSMHA), under the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017. Check that the name, address, bed capacity and responsible medical practitioner match the centre you are visiting. Our Karjat campus holds MSMHA Permanent Registration Certificate No. 60/2023, and the certificates are on our licences and certificates page.

Does health insurance cover de-addiction treatment in India?

Cover depends on your insurer and policy, including waiting periods and exclusions. Read your policy wording and ask your insurer or TPA before admission. If you want help with what to ask, call +91 84529 40789.

What should I bring for admission to a Nasha Mukti Kendra in Mumbai?

Bring a government photo ID for the patient and for the family member who comes along, any old prescriptions, test reports or discharge papers, a list of the medicines being taken, and personal clothes and toiletries. Needs can differ, so call +91 84529 40789 before you travel and our team will confirm the list.
